General Information about this constituency
This constituency is comprised of four persons, not also being members of Council, elected by Congregation.
Elections to this constituency restrict candidates to persons who are not members of Council. This means that all members of Congregation are eligible to nominate a candidate or to vote, but prospective candidates who want to stand for election must be a person who is not a member of Council.
The full term of office is seven years (or less, when a by-election is held to fill the residue of the term of office for an elected member who is standing down early).
The Nominating Committee for the Vice-Chancellorship reports to Council with a recommendation that a named individual be appointed as the next Vice-Chancellor. Council then submits to Congregation the name of the individual proposed for appointment. The membership of the committee includes members representing different elements of the University, including Conference of Colleges, the academic divisions and Congregation, as well as members appointed by Council. The Committee is not expected to meet again until the current Vice-Chancellor is coming to the end of their seven-year term.
The terms of reference and membership of this body are set out in Council Regulations 21 of 2002.
