Council Regulations 18 of 2002

1. Subject to the approval of the relevant divisional board, a faculty board may divide its faculty into sub-faculties and may determine that functions normally performed by the whole faculty shall be performed by the appropriate sub-faculty.

2. The functions of each faculty, or where a faculty has been divided into sub-faculties each sub-faculty, shall be to make proposals to the relevant divisional or faculty board on matters relating to the academic activities within the faculty or sub-faculty, and to advise that divisional or faculty board on any other proposals referred to the faculty or sub-faculty by the board.

3. Each faculty, or where a faculty has been divided into sub-faculties each sub-faculty, shall elect a chairman annually.

4. The chairman may, when he or she judges it expedient, summon meetings of the faculty or sub-faculty of which he or she is chairman, and shall do so on the requisition of not less than one-half of the members of the body to be summoned, or, if the number of members of that body exceeds thirty, on the requisition of not fewer than fifteen members.

5. Each faculty or sub-faculty shall have power to regulate its proceedings by by-laws.

6. The chairman of the meeting of any faculty or sub-faculty shall notify its decisions to the Registrar, who shall preserve a record of those decisions.

7. The chairman of the board of any faculty which has been divided into sub-faculties may, if he or she judges it expedient, summon a meeting of the faculty, and shall do so on the requisition of not less than one-half of the members of the faculty, or, if the number of members of the faculty exceeds thirty, on the requisition of not fewer than fifteen members.
